Crystal-like growth of metal oxide/CNT composite with electroplated “seed”

چکیده
A fabrication technique is developed for the preparation of metal oxide/CNT composites. An essential feature of the technique lies in the use of non-aqueous electrolyte in place of the usual aqueous electrolyte, which ensures welldispersed CNTs without surfactants. After a “seed” is formed by electroplating on the anode, the seed is simply pulled up at a certain speed to grow one-dimensional CNT composite structure. The technique is able to distribute uniformly metal oxide and has high weight fraction of CNT in the composite structure. Moreover, the conductivity of the composite is much higher than those of CNT fibers fabricated with polymer because tungsten oxide plays a role of electron acceptor and current-induced thermal excitation recovers the crystalline of CNT.

For efficient use of metal oxides, such as MnO(2) and RuO(2), in pseudocapacitors and other electrochemical applications, the poor conductivity of the metal oxide is a major problem. To tackle the problem, we have designed a ternary nanocomposite film composed of metal oxide (MnO(2)), carbon nanotube (CNT), and conducting polymer (CP). Each component in the MnO(2)/CNT/CP film provides unique an...
متن کاملComposite yarns of multiwalled carbon nanotubes with metallic electrical conductivity.
Unique macrostructures known as spun carbon-nanotube fibers (CNT yarns) can be manufactured from vertically aligned forests of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). These yarns behave as semiconductors with room-temperature conductivities of about 5 x 10(2) S cm(-1). Their potential use as, for example, microelectrodes in medical implants, wires in microelectronics, or lightweight conductors i...

Biominerals are invariably composite materials, where occlusion of organic macromolecules within single crystals can significantly modify their properties. In this article, we take inspiration from this biogenic strategy to generate composite crystals in which magnetite (Fe3O4) and zincite (ZnO) nanoparticles are embedded within a calcite single crystal host, thereby endowing it with new magnet...
